Book four of the author's series which recounts little known, but historically important battles between the Indians and the whites who intrude on their territories. It is 1869, and the Kansas Pacific Railway is pushing its way west. Hit-and-run raids by Cheyenne are slowing its progress. In midsummer, the 5th Cavalry mounts a brutal, surprise attack on the encamped Cheyenne. As a result, a new Cheyenne leader emerges. Called White Horse, he leads his people in an ill-fated attack known as the Battle of Summit Springs in the Colorado Territory.
